CASE STUDY · ONSHORE AND GAS TRANSPORT
End-of-life safety nodes migrated on a gas export pipeline
The process protection and shutdown nodes that control a gas export pipeline are being moved to a current HIMA platform before spare parts run out.
1The challenge
The protection and shutdown nodes controlling a gas pipeline between an onshore terminal and an offshore platform are approaching end of life, and spare parts will no longer be available after 2030. Any downtime on the line has to be kept to an absolute minimum.
2Our solution
- Replacement of the existing HIQuad nodes with HIMA HIQuad X, in a new cabinet at each location
- Reprogramming from ELOP II to SILworX, with no change to the safety functions
- Optimised communication between the two sites and removal of a satellite link
- Modernised communication between the nodes, the HMI and the engineering station, with cyber security to current requirements
- Engineering, production, installation, commissioning support and as-built documentation
3The result
- Improved reliability and a longer lifetime for a critical safety system
- Supports stable, reliable gas deliveries
- Downtime minimised through prefabrication, thorough testing and preparation on site before commissioning
